The Dancers

The Dancers

Music and Lyrics by Drew Brody

in any given city
on any given evening
there are people who are sleeping
there are people who are not
and the people who are sleeping
make fists while they are dreaming
their dreams are full of meaning
that by morning they’ve forgot
but the restless ones cannot breathe
and so they look for answers
these restless ones are dancers
and their faces hate the light
so as the moon is rising
and good citizens go under
the dancers find each other
and take their places for the night
even though it’s the dead of night
there are lights that shine
from the darkest corners of town
there are people who dance inside
who ignite the fire
that’ll burn the city down
i wanna be with the dancers
i wanna be with the dancers
i wanna be with the dancers
(even if i never dance myself)
so maybe i’m an alien
a stranger in the pit
find a corner, keep my distance
plug my ears against the loud sound
cause i cannot be free like them
i’m too much in my head
but i will not go to bed
if there are dancers to be found
i wanna be with the dancers
i wanna be with the dancers
i wanna be with the dancers
(even if i never dance myself)
even though it’s the dead of night
there are lights that shine
from the darkest corners of town
and with a decadent will to fight
they resist the night
and they burn the city down
i wanna be with the dancers…
in any given city
on any given evening
there are people who are sleeping
there are people who are not
now i’m wide awake
i’m on my way
i want to dance
i’m not afraid
i’ll throw myself into the crowd
i’ll not retreat until the dawn
i wanna be with the dancers…
