\nAnd he separated them for a reason with an ocean they\u2019re divided

\u201cOn one condition,\u201d he said, \u201cI will let you go
\nIf you pack your bags today, leave Virginia, leave your home\u201d
\nSo we said goodbye to Caroline County and everything we\u2019d known
\nAnd we set off on our own

We were just Loving in Virginia
\nI never set out to break now law
\nWe were just trying to make a life like everyone else

We moved to the slums of Washington and I tell you times was bad
\nWe raised three kids: 3 beautiful kids, but I missed my Virginia land
\nWe bounced back and forth from court to court
\nSpent everything we had<\/p>\n
10 years later we were vindicated by the highest court in the land
\nThey said \u201cyou\u2019ve been denied a fundamental civil right of man\u201d
\nI said \u201cRichard, this is why were put here, this was all God\u2019s plan\u201d
\nAnd so we packed our bags
\nAnd once again<\/p>\n

Richard Perry Loving died in 1975
\nIn a car crash that took his life and left me blind in one eye
\nTo the man I fought so hard to keep I had to say goodbye
\nIn the hills of Caroline County I still make my home
\nAnd every day I think of the man whose name described his soul
\nAnd from my good eye I look out on a world that\u2019s still has room to grow
\nStill a ways to go<\/p>\n
